Happy Independence Day 2016: A Brief History

The British established the EAST INDIA COMPANY in India for the purpose of doing trade with the then ‘Golden Bird’ and consumed by greed on seeing India’s wealth started interfering in the matters of the state, and with their strong army support, gradually started getting hold of parts of India. And very soon, in the early 1800s, India was being ruled by the Empress of Britain.

People opposed the British regime in every way they could. Revolutionists all over India were not afraid of losing their lives in the noble act of trying to achieve freedom for India, and thousands and thousands of them did lose their lives. But nothing went in vain.

The British government realized that they could no longer control the increasing restlessness and the growing movements in India and declared that they would grant full self-governance to British India by June 19478, the latest. T|he new Viceroy, Lord Mountbatten, however advanced the date to 15 August 1947, thereby marking an important milestone of Indian history.

The British India was divided into two dominions: India and Pakistan. And India became an independent republic on 26 January 1950 when its constitution came into effect and for claiming the Independence Day Speech, proceed below.
